MAHA KUMBH
MELA: THE BIGGEST RELIGIOUS GATHERING INTERNATIONALLY
The Kumbh Mela is more than a religious festival; it is
cosmic event that pulls together millions of pilgrims globally into the holy
city of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. It is held in every 12 years around the
globe, all the while hosted every 144 years in India where devotees flock to
bathe in the sacred three rivers: the Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati
river. These gatherings are a mix of celebration around culture, humanity,
life, faith all while being united.
It starts from Makar Sankranti till MahaShivratri (14th Jan. to 26th Feb. in 2025) where millions of devotes will come and purify and cleanse their soul in holy waters of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical river Saraswati (Sangam – where these rivers meet).
Maha Kumbh Mela: Origin of the Kumbh Mela
The Kumbh Mela finds its roots in an ancient Hindu myth. The
gods and demons brewed the ocean of milk in order to obtain amrita, immortal
nectar. Durning the battle for the drops of amrita, variations of other sacred
locations emerged including Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. These
places quickly became noteworthy sites for Kumbh Mela and began holding their
pulses of tradition.
Maha Kumbh Mela is cherished every 144 years in Prayagraj
globally, inviting countless believers who wish to bathe in the holy trio
rivers Ganga and Yamuna along with the stated mythical Saraswati. With the hope
that during these times their soul would be purified to reach a level of
spiritual enlightenment.
Attendees claim that the act of bathing in the holy water of
the river during the festive period of the season holy cleanses their spirit,
freeing them from all the sins they have committed. Many believe that the
conjunction of different planets during this time increases the spiritual
energy that is present at the place, which boosts the blessings received. This
is an occasion or a chance to seek the company of saints and sages so that one
can seek the guidance and inspiration which they have to give. It brings
together people from all sections of society, restoring their spirituality and
sense of togetherness. This is a period of pensive worship during which,
together with millions of other worshippers, the individual is fortunate enough
to witness the supreme being.
The Maha
Kumbh Experience
Just imagine, the moment you put your foot towards the holy
rivers, you are instantly greeted by a sea of vivid colours, chants, and

the diverse culture, enlightenment from the saints never ceases, and while all
this is taking place, one can also find moments to reflect by the river. The
